Arches National Park
has very many arches.
This one, Double Arch,
is my favorite.
It is hard to show in a photo,
but the second arch is behind
the first and "joined to it" on
the left.
For scale, try looking for people
in the foreground and on a rock
in the shadow of first arch.
This arch can be seen from a
parking lot and can be reached
by an easy fifteen-minute walk.
Landscape Arch is very
broad.
Double O Arch was reached by a
rather challenging hike taking four
hours, round trip. We walked through
the lower "O" to take this picture.
We saw three other arches earlier on
this hike. Landscape (above) was first
and the walk there alone would have
been a fairly easy one-hour round trip.
Arches National Park is not just
for arches. Here is a sample of
its scenery, taken from the
main park road, a few miles
from the entrance.
Note:
Arches National Park is found by driving a few miles north on US Hwy 191 from the town of Moab, Utah. Moab has full "tourist services" and claims to be the mountain-biking capitol of the world.
