Big Sur Coast: Map, Some Locations and Accomodations

The Big Sur Coast is located in central California, between Monterey and Morro Bay.  It has no precise boundaries, but we think of it as the stretch beginning near Carmel and extending about 90 miles south to the Hearst “Castle” at San Simeon.

Numbers on the map refer to the
locations described below.

1 Monterey

2 Point Lobos State Reserve

3 Andrew Molera State Park

4 Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park

5 Lucia

6 San Simeon

7 Morro Bay

1 Monterey – many accommodations of all kinds, famous aquarium.
2 Point Lobos State Reserve  – our favorite for nature viewing, day-use only.
3 Andrew Molera State Park -- hiking, a few tentsites, no RV camping.
4 Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park –hiking, redwoods, lodge, many campsites for RVs and tents
     a gas station, food, commercial CGs along road just north of state park;
     a rustic lodge and restaurant, our favorite: Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn & restaurant, a few miles south.
5 Lucia – one lodge and perhaps a restaurant;
     also limited NFS camping nearby for some RVs.
6 San Simeon – “Hearst Castle” tourist attraction, state park campground on beach.
7 Morro Bay – accommodations of all kinds.
