The Canadian Rockies is such a favorite place of ours that we have spent over ten summers there. We have taken so many pictures over the years that we do not take many more. But we had a little digital camera there in 2001 and here are a few of the pictures we took.
This rainbow picture was taken at the campround closest to Banff. Note the second arc with the colors in reverse order.
We are fond of waterfalls; the one on the right is Athabasca, near Jasper, it is one of the biggest in these national parks. Despite there having been little recent rainfall, there was more water in the falls than usual. It is on a glacier-fed river and it had been unusually warm the prior month.
This is Tangle Falls, near the south end of
of Jasper Park.
The mountain goats, on the left, were visiting a salt-lick at the side of the road in Kootenay National Park. Mothers and kids travel together in a group and are commonly seen at such a location.
The picture on the right was taken at Wilcox pass, at the very south end of Jasper Park. It is one of our favorite hikes and we have always seen bighorn sheep rams there. These males roam the higher altitudes while the females and young may be seen closer to the road. The camera I used then did not have a telephoto lens and the image quality at this magnification is not ideal. We look forward to trying with our new camera next summer.
We can't resist snapping a pretty lake with mountains in the background -- but I can't remeber now exactly which these are.
The lake on the left, below, is in Waterton National Park. The picture on the right was taken at a Japanese Garden in the city of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.
