We saw loons at several locations, this one at
Johnston Lake near Banff townsite.  They pair for
life and usually only one pair is found per lake.
The loon is so highly regarded that there is an
image of one on the Canadian one dollar coin.

The Gray Jay often shows up at picnics and
has several nicknanes:  "Camp Robber" and
"Whiskey Jack."  This one was at the Valley of
Five Lakes, five miles south of Jasper townsite.

The colorful Black-billed Magpie often travels in
small flocks and has a raucous call.  It is often
found in or near towns; this one was at Bow
River Falls, in Banff townsite.
