Canadian Rockies 2004 - Animals and Birds

This male Elk was seen right inside Tunnel Mountain
Campground, just outside Banff townsite.
The group of Bighorn Sheep was sighted alongside
the Icefield Parkway, nine miles south of Icefield Center.
They are attracted to various such locations by salts on
the road. These are females and youngsters; males
(rams) have much larger horns and stay separate and
at higher altitudes away from roads. We see rams most
years on a hike to Wilcox Pass, but were unable to go
this year.
The little Columbia Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel
shows up at many picnics.
