There are four adjacent National Parks in the Canadian Rockies, plus several Provincial Parks.  As you see from the scale of miles above the map, they cover a lot of territory.  This website concerns two of them, Banff NP at lower center and Jasper NP at upper left.  Both are large parks with lots of wilderness. Each park includes a town with the same name as the park, having hotels, shops and permanent residents.

The green line on the map shows the main roads.  (1) is Calgary, the nearest city; (2) is Banff town site; (3) is Lake Louise; (4) is Jasper town site; (5) is Maligne Lake and (6) is Edmonton.  The Icefield Parkway stretches between (3) and (4).
